2019 Resolutions For Your Electronic Assembly

2019 Resolutions For Your Electronic Assembly

Ah. It’s the New Year, a time for resolutions and fresh starts. Get healthy, take that vacation, spend more time with the kids, but don’t forget professional resolutions in addition to your personal ones in the New Year. It is time to tackle the big things, like the product you’ve had on the back burner. 2019 is the year of the flux capacitor, after all. Now is the time to take your electronic assembly baby to production, and here is how you are going to do it.

Start with Your Design, Then PrototypeLegacy - Square

The best place to start is at the very beginning, so take that great idea and get it down on paper. Look at the big picture first. Start with your concept and then fill in the details. Remember to identify, in detail, all your expectations and specifications. The more details you have, the easier it will be for you to create the design of your product. Once your design drawing is as close as possible to the product you have in mind, you are ready to create your prototype. A functional prototype will be able to demonstrate all or most of the capabilities planned in your project.

Time for Testing

Now that you have your prototype, it is time to see if your awesome idea works the way you want it to. During testing, your product prototype will be put through its paces. It will be checked for function, performance, and reliability. It will also go through climatic testing, environmental testing, mechanical testing, conformance testing, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and safety certification. All of this testing will allow you to see if your design meets pre-determined specifications and goals, and allows you to perfect your design. It is much easier and cost effective to make changes during this stage of the process.

Product Perfecting, Then Production

Once you have made changes and tweaked your design, it’s time to streamline and focus on your product’s packaging, interface, and circuitry. You must perfect your mechanical design and finalize work on the power supply, the interfacing, the products software, and firmware. After that, it is time to focus on aesthetics and the user experience. Looks matter, and customers don’t want a product that looks clunky, so it’s time to streamline your design and give it an appealing appearance. A successful product must look, feel, and perform in a way your customer wants and expects.

Your product is now extremely close to production, but first, it must go thorough compliance and safety testing to be sure it complies with CE and/or UL standards. Once all testing and compliances are cleared, your product is ready for a full production run.
